Onyx (Onex Ratna) from ₹150 per carat, in black and green. Green Onyx is worn as the upratna for Emerald (Panna), for Mercury (Budh), usually on an astrologer's advice. Onyx is chalcedony — an evenly coloured quartz that takes a high polish and holds up at Mohs 7, which is why it suits signet rings, men's jewellery and everyday wear.
