Most citrine on the market is amethyst that has been heated to turn it yellow — stone that comes out of the ground this colour is uncommon — and both are genuine quartz. Standard gem testing usually cannot separate the two. Durable at Mohs 7 for everyday rings. In Vedic astrology Sunela is worn as an affordable substitute for Yellow Sapphire for Jupiter (Guru), usually on an astrologer's advice.
