Star Ruby (Sitara Manik) from ₹350 per carat. The six-ray star comes from rutile needles lying in three directions inside the stone; it appears under a single direct light and moves as you tilt the stone. Judge one by the star: how centred it sits, how sharp the rays are, and how smoothly it glides across the dome. Star Ruby is ruby, so it carries the same Mohs 9 hardness and is worn for the Sun (Surya), usually on an astrologer's advice.
