Detailed Product Description

This Natural Bloodstone (Heliotrope Pitoniya) gemstone weighs 8.92 carat (9.80 ratti) and measures 15.00 x 12.10 x 5.90 mm, cut in an attractive oval cabochon. It displays a rich dark green body with characteristic red jasper spots and subtle yellow-green mottling. Indian origin, declared by Ratna Gems. It comes with an independent laboratory certificate from The Standard Gem Testing Laboratory identifying it as natural bloodstone.

Bloodstone, widely known as Heliotrope and in India as Pitoniya, is a quartz-family chalcedony gemstone (cryptocrystalline silica). Its distinctive green body contains microscopic inclusions of chlorite or amphibole, while the vivid red flecks that give bloodstone its traditional name are caused by iron oxides, predominantly hematite. Because natural bloodstone is formed through unique hydrothermal processes, each individual stone displays its own distinctive pattern of green and red.

Appearance

The gemstone features an opaque to semi-translucent dark green base adorned with natural red-brown markings and fine mottling. Fashioned as an oval cabochon with a polished dome, the surface reflects a clean waxy to vitreous lustre. The studio photographs and 360-degree video showcase this gemstone face-up, from perspective profile angles, the reverse base, and held in hand for accurate inspection.

Traditional Use

In Vedic astrology, Bloodstone (Pitoniya) is traditionally associated with Mars (Mangal). In the Indian gemstone trade, Pitoniya is also traditionally chosen as an upratna, or substitute gemstone, for Red Coral (Moonga). Customers selecting Bloodstone for astrological use usually follow their astrologer's or Pandit ji's guidance. Bloodstone is also a traditional birthstone for March.

Care

Chalcedony rates 6.5 to 7.0 on the Mohs hardness scale with good structural toughness, making it suitable for rings, pendants, and bracelets. Clean gently using warm soapy water and a soft cloth, and dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, sudden thermal shocks, and ultrasonic or steam cleaning treatments. Store separately from harder gemstones to preserve its smooth polish.
